Privacy Policy
Ferrite is a desktop application that runs on your own computer. It is designed to be local-first: your drive data never leaves your machine, and Ferrite contains no analytics, tracking, advertising, or telemetry of any kind.
What stays on your device (never sent anywhere)
- Drive & SMART data — models, serial numbers, health, temperature, surface-scan and benchmark results. Read directly from your drives and shown only to you.
- History — temperature / health / wear trends, stored in a local SQLite database in your Windows user profile.
- Settings — your preferences, stored as a local file.
- Email-alert SMTP password (only if you enable email alerts) — encrypted at rest with Windows DPAPI, tied to your Windows user account. It is never transmitted to Arkon or anyone else except the SMTP server you configure, when sending your own alert emails.
What is sent, and to whom
- License activation (to Polar). When you activate a license key, Ferrite sends the license key and a device label (your computer name) to Polar (
api.polar.sh) to validate and activate it, and periodically to re-validate. This is the only outbound network request Ferrite makes on its own. - Purchases (handled entirely by Polar). Payments and license delivery are handled by Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), our merchant of record. Arkon never sees or stores your card details. Your name / email / payment data are processed by Polar under Polar's Privacy Policy.
What Arkon receives
From a purchase, Arkon receives (via Polar) the information needed to support you and manage licenses — typically your email address, order details, and license activation records (e.g. how many devices a key is active on). We use this only to deliver the product, provide support, and prevent license abuse.
Data retention & your rights
- Local data lives on your device until you delete it (uninstalling and removing the app-data folder removes it).
- For data held by Polar / Arkon in connection with a purchase, you may request access or deletion by emailing support@arkon.cc (subject to records we must keep for legal / accounting reasons).
Children
Ferrite is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date reflects the current version.
